When Help is Most Needed

Matthew’s Closet is a clothing ministry started in 1991 by parishioners of Corpus Christi Church with the intent of providing clothing to those in need without regard for their ability to pay.  It is through the ministry of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish that we continue to support our community. More than half of the Closet’s annual operating budget is raised through sale of gently, used clothing and house wares.

Supporting our Community

Matthew’s Closet provides free clothing to those who cannot afford it, meeting physical and social needs of individuals and families.  Winter clothes offer comfort and protection as the majority of clients served rely on public transportation and walking as a means of commuting.  Warm winter coats, boots, hats, and gloves are essential in Rochester winters.  As importantly, Matthew’s Closet was founded with the understanding that everyone is entitled to clothes to keep them warm, help them succeed, and make them happy.

Volunteering

The Closet began as a small operation located in a few classrooms in the old Corpus Christi school building.  Having outgrown the classroom space, Matthew’s Closet moved in 2003 to a new location on Bay Street to better serve our community.  Volunteers support Matthew’s Closet in its mission.
